Context disappears
A useful post rarely tells you who the advice is for, when it was true, or what changed afterwards.
Built first for Chinese and Asian students in the UK
THE OTHER BOOK is a trusted decision network that combines real student experience with AI-assisted verification — so the things you save can become decisions you trust.
Three recommendations saved from the community.
The claim is broadly accurate, but eligibility varies by provider and additional rent may be requested upfront.
THE PROBLEM
Student life is full of high-stakes choices. The problem is no longer access to advice; it is knowing what deserves trust.
A useful post rarely tells you who the advice is for, when it was true, or what changed afterwards.
Recommendations, sponsorship and lived experience are often presented in exactly the same way.
Students save hundreds of posts, screenshots and messages — then start again when a real decision arrives.
HOW IT WORKS
Bring useful posts, links and recommendations into one decision book.
Ask THE OTHER BOOK VERIFY to examine claims, context, dates and conflicting evidence.
Compare the evidence, understand what remains uncertain and make the decision yours.
THE OTHER BOOK VERIFY
VERIFY is the trust layer inside THE OTHER BOOK. It helps a student examine a claim before acting — without pretending that every real-world question has a simple yes or no answer.
What is actually being asserted — and what would count as evidence?
Who does it apply to, in which place, and under what conditions?
When was it true, and has policy, pricing or practice changed?
Where credible sources disagree, uncertainty stays visible.
“International students can rent in the UK without a UK guarantor.”
Some landlords or providers may accept rent in advance, guarantor services or alternative evidence. Terms and affordability checks differ.
VERIFY supports informed decision-making. It is not legal, financial, medical or immigration advice.
COMMUNITY, WITH ACCOUNTABILITY
THE OTHER BOOK is designed around a simple principle: community and verification should strengthen each other. We do not need less lived experience. We need better ways to understand it.
First-hand stories remain valuable because people can see whose experience it was and what shaped it.
Paid relationships and incentives should be labelled clearly, not hidden inside the tone of a recommendation.
VERIFY provides sources, dates, confidence and limitations rather than an unexplained green tick.
The product helps you reason better. It does not pretend to replace judgement or professional advice.
BUILT FROM ONE REAL JOURNEY
We are starting with Chinese and Asian students in the UK — a community making thousands of unfamiliar decisions across housing, study, money, wellbeing and everyday life.
The ambition is wider: create a trusted decision layer that can travel with international communities wherever context is hard to find and trust is expensive to get wrong.
AN OXFORD INTELLIGENCE VENTURE
THE OTHER BOOK is a project and consumer brand operated by Oxford Intelligence Limited. Oxford Intelligence provides the operating, governance and institutional foundation behind the venture.
FREQUENTLY ASKED
It is a decision network. Community experience matters, but the product is designed around saving, checking and acting — not endless content consumption.
No. THE OTHER BOOK is designed to sit alongside the places you already discover information. Save what matters, then use the decision and verification layer when the stakes are real.
No. VERIFY assesses available evidence, context, recency and disagreement. It makes confidence and uncertainty explicit; it is not a regulator, guarantor or substitute for professional advice.
The first community is Chinese and Asian students moving to and living in the United Kingdom, with the model designed to expand to other international student corridors.
